For the past 10 years Instituto Araguaia has been managing “Lagos das Ariranhas”, a 560-hectare private reserve in Cantão.

Lagos das Ariranhas

Instituto Araguaia Research Base

Amazon-style kitchen with wood stove.
In our reserve we practice the lowest possible carbon emissions. We use solar panels for energy and our typical Amazon dug-out canoes are run by quiet electric engines.
Our Reseach Base was constructed according to a typical Amazon-style architecture, with thatched roofs and screened walls. Inside, a large open area and two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and shower insure a feeling of roominess and a homy atmosphere for scientists and volunteers.
